Summary of Monday's sj meeting

"Summary of meeting:

Tonight we had a small gathering to talk about the Future of Camp Glenburn in preparation for tomorrow night's meeting on this topic. The goal was to get some ducks lined up in order to better prepare ourselves. I'm sure this is not the whole story, but here's a summary of what we know:

-The Y now owns the Carpenter Centre.

-A Camp Task Force was formed to help the board decide what to do with Camp Glenburn, the Carpenter Centre, and camping programs in general.

-The Camp Task Force is made up of former Red Triangle recipients and current Board Members (including only 1 Glenburnian, Janet Scott (Winnie)).

-A feasibility study was performed to assess camping at the Saint John Y.

-The Camp Task Force is reviewing the feasibility study and will make a recommendation to the board.

-The Camp Task Force has not solicited the opinion of the Director of Camping, nor that of the Camp Director.

-The Y wants to stay with residential camping programs - unsure of the location.

-The Y is land rich, and cash poor.

-The Y seems to be focusing its energy on a non-developed facility that has no infrastructure with which to pursue residential camping.

They seem to be forgetting that Camp Glenburn is financially self-sufficient and is a fully functional operating camp. Ultimately we want to get the message across that Camp Glenburn is important to us, and that we are a vast family! If the future of Glenburn is up in the air, then we want the opportunity and time to share this with all Glenburnians. We'll need time to digest the information given to us tomorrow evening and we want to have another consultation. We want time to make an informed recommendation back to the Y; to let the Y know what the Glenburn family thinks. Please pass along the message about the meeting tomorrow night to as many Glenburnians as you can. We need everybody's support!

I will keep everyone posted here, check it out and tell others to do the same. I'm going to be taking notes tonight and I'll post a summary tomorrow.

thankyou so much for keeping us updated. i (Eppie and im sure Vogue to, both really appreciate this. We are both part of the glenburn family but have always lived in england which makes it difficult for us to keep up to date with such topics (and hard for us to vent our frustration at this issue in particular).
Thanks again!

No problem. Tell anyone else to check it out if they are interested. I'm going to collect everything I get and post it here so we'll try to keep everyone on the same page.
